The City of Ottawa is developing a Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Plan. The Province of Ontario’s Safer Ontario Act, 2018 requires municipalities to prepare and adopt a community safety and well-being plan before January 1, 2021. Council approved Ottawa’s CSWB roadmap in October 2019.
Ottawa’s CSWB vision is “to achieve sustainable communities where everyone feels safe, has a sense of belonging and opportunities to participate, and where individuals and families are able to meet their needs for education, health care, food, housing, income, and social and cultural expression.” Some of the priority topics identified for consideration during this process are: Discrimination, Marginalization, and Racism; Mental Health and Cognitive Functioning; Employment; Emotional Violence; and Family Support, among many others.
Throughout the year, City staff will be continuing to engage with the public and gather feedback on priorities and experiences. This feedback will be collected, and in turn, will inform the draft CSWB report, which is intended for presentation at Council in fall of 2020.
