As many of you know, this has been a long-drawn-out process between Ashcroft, its contractors, the City and my office. Since then, Ashcroft has brought forward a construction plan for their Navan Road sewer work, which is anticipated to begin on Sunday, January 30, 2022. From the beginning, my and the community’s concerns have been centred around seeing a plan that minimizes the impact on existing residents and the nearby schools. While this construction is primarily focused on upgrading the sewer infrastructure under Navan Road, it will now also include my request for a widening of the road, with paved shoulders, to better accommodate cyclists and pedestrians, until the City undertakes the full urbanization of Navan Road.
However, as there are so few roads offering ins and outs into the community (another issue entirely that the City needs to start prioritizing), any construction project of this kind will have ripple effects and requires a strong mitigation plan. To date, this has primarily been the sticking point between Ashcroft, myself, and the City.
Below, you will find the construction and traffic detour plans detailing how traffic is being rerouted around our community. For example, small vehicle traffic will detour onto Mer Bleue Road and larger trucks further east onto Tenth Line Road. OC Transpo Bus Stops access will be maintained through the construction site, as will access to the adjacent businesses and facilities, such as RAFO, Miracle League, Sandy’s Pizza, etc.
This project is anticipated to last six months. Ashcroft has committed itself to this timeline by hiring and bringing in additional construction resources dedicated to addressing any issues or problems that emerge during the construction.
While these construction and mitigation measures have been put in place, ultimately, Navan Road is still one of the only roads to offer connectivity through the community, and this construction will certainly be felt. Many of you may still have questions about this work, especially those who live off Navan Road along this stretch and will be directly impacted. Please, reach out to Ashcroft, as well as myself. Ashcroft has committed to hearing our concerns and addressing issues as they arise; they have even gone so far as to agree to set up a dedicated contact person and email for fast-tracking the community’s concerns and questions.
