Every summer, the process begins to develop the City’s budget for the following year. As a first step, the Mayor of Ottawa will determine by what percentage the overall Operating and Capital Budgets will increase by, and from there City Staff will work within their departments to draft their next year’s budget inline with that increase.

During the fall, the department budgets will then go to their respective committees, where public delegates can share their feedback and Councillors can propose amendments. From there, the budgets will go to Council for a final vote on any amendments, and the passage of the final budget.

Throughout this period, the City staff, and Councillors will turn to residents to hear from them on what they would like to see reflected in next year’s budget.
As next year’s Draft Budget is released by the Mayor, I will be updating this webpage with helpful information.

As your Councillor, I always want to make sure I am raising your concerns and advocating for your priorities at City Hall. Below, you will find a short survey, where you can identify your priorities for the next City Budget. I look forward to hearing from you on what matters most to your family.

There will be several opportunities to participate in the draft budget consultations over the coming months, and I will share those details and dates as they become available.

As many are already aware, with the Province of Ontario changes to municipal governance (the so-called “Strong Mayor” powers), while Councillors are able to propose amendments and advocate for what we want to see in the budget; ultimately, the budget is set by, and final approval rests, with the Mayor.
