I am thrilled to share that the new Ottawa River Lookout is officially open!
When this opportunity first came forward, I saw the potential to create something truly special for our community. My goal was to establish more than just a viewpoint overlooking the Ottawa River. I wanted to help create a destination that celebrates the natural beauty of our waterfront, encourages people to spend time outdoors, and provides a welcoming place to gather, reflect, and connect with nature. Thank you to everyone who submitted feedback as part of the Engage Ottawa consultation. Finally seeing the vision become a reality is both exciting and rewarding.
Located behind Voyageur Drive, between Radisson Way and Fairwinds Terrace, the Lookout offers stunning views of the Ottawa River and surrounding landscape. The space includes seating, a bike ring post for cyclists, and unique inlaid stones that softly glow after dark, creating a memorable experience for visitors during the evening hours.
To celebrate this exciting new community amenity, I invite residents to join me for a special grand opening event on Monday, August 10 at 8:30 pm (rain date: Tuesday, August 11 at 8:30 pm).
This twilight gathering has been designed to showcase the Lookout at its most magical. As the sun sets over the river, residents are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair, stroll along the pathway as the glowing stones begin to illuminate, and spend some time taking in the spectacular view as daylight fades and the stars begin to appear overhead. This event will feature a young, local musician, Maria Steller, whose talented performance will add to the unique and tranquil nature of the space. It will be a wonderful opportunity to experience this new space alongside neighbours and fellow community members.
Please note that there is no on-site parking, and attendees are strongly encouraged to walk or cycle to the event whenever possible.

This Lookout reflects the importance of investing in community spaces that bring people together and strengthen our connection to the natural environment. While roads, sidewalks, and other infrastructure are essential, places like this help create a sense of identity and belonging. They offer opportunities to slow down, appreciate our surroundings, and enjoy the beauty that exists right here in the community.
Whether you visit to watch the sunset, enjoy a peaceful moment by the water, meet up with friends, or simply take in the scenery during a walk or bike ride, I hope this new Lookout becomes a place that residents and visitors enjoy for years to come.
